Statement Regarding Timeline Inconsistencies
and Recorded Conversation with Ms. Lense
The dashboard camera installed in the vehicle of FA Blockhus was equipped to record sound. As a result, any phone conversations conducted while in the vehicle were captured directly by the dashboard camera’s audio recording function. This recording system preserved the conversations as they occurred in real time, without alteration, providing an accurate and contemporaneous record of statements made during those calls. The audio was not recreated after the fact but instead originated from the vehicle’s dash camera while the calls were actively taking place.
Ms. Lense was furloughed from United Airlines effective October 1, 2020. Despite this, she later alleged that she was harassed by Mr. Blockhus on or about October 13, 2020. However, recorded phone conversations from that same timeframe provides important context that raises questions regarding the accuracy and consistency of that claim.
In the recorded conversations, Ms. Lense discusses preparing and updating her résumé following her furlough from United Airlines. She also states that she had already secured new employment and had been working at that job for several weeks. The tone and substance of the discussion reflect an ongoing, voluntary, and conversational interaction between the parties rather than a relationship characterized by fear, intimidation, or avoidance.
This communication is significant because it occurred during the same general period in which Ms. Lense later claimed she was being harassed. The existence of a cooperative and cordial conversation concerning personal and professional matters—including her employment transition and work status—is inconsistent with the portrayal of an individual who was allegedly being subjected to ongoing harassment.
The recording provides contemporaneous evidence of continued communication and interaction between the parties and should be evaluated alongside the broader timeline of events. When viewed in context, it raises legitimate questions regarding whether the later allegations accurately reflect the nature of the relationship and communications during that period.
Accordingly, the recorded discussion concerning Ms. Lense’s furlough status, résumé preparation, and newly obtained employment serves as additional evidence relevant to assessing the credibility, consistency, and context of the allegations asserted against Mr. Blockhus.
